[...] Like it or not, Gartner are the original 800lb gorilla. Whether it is right or wrong, the fact remains that their MQ inherently has an influence in IT buying behaviour. What AR pros need to do is work with the analyst ideally six months prior to any publication to fully understand what success criteria are to be better positioned as a leader and work towards those goals. A great way to understand how to work with an MQ can be seen in the great IIAR White Paper. [...]

Personally, I think this is a major step forward. It's time that the industry stood up for itself as a profession and put standards in place. Having a test that is drawn up by experts from across the industry that, therefore, reflects a broad set of interests rather than those of a single firm is particularly important. Best of all, the certification test is independent of any training scheme, so it cannot be rigged.

What do I think? Imagine an analyst firm that knows how to use apostrophes . . .

* * *

As of today Ovum has integrated it’s IT offering with Datamonitor Technology and Butler Group creating a single, more powerful research partner under the Ovum brand.

Interesting stuff! Good luck to them. I imagine this is great news for Tim Jennings...
Also interesting to see Ovum pitch "advising on the business value of IT". It's nice to see our position further validated by our competitors!
